David, Escape the Camp!
David and his men were camped with the Philistine army. Achish king of the Philistines thought well of David, but the Philistine lords feared David might turn against them in battle and would not let him go with them. Achish told David to go back in peace, and David and his men rose early in the morning and returned to the land of the Philistines. This game splits that one night in 1 Samuel 29:6-11 into five stages for you to walk through.
How to play
- Stage 1 · Move through the maze of the Philistine camp with the arrow keys or the on-screen buttons and reach King Achish's command tent. The three stars on the way are a bonus.
- Stage 2 · Tap through the conversation between Achish and the lords. Each line shows who said what, with the verse.
- Stage 3 · Three roads appear. When the lords say David must be sent back, the lock on the road toward Ziklag opens. A wrong choice does not end the game; you can choose again.
- Stage 4 · Dawn breaks. Go around the camp and gather all five of your men to open the exit.
- Stage 5 · Jump over rocks, trees and puddles as you head toward Ziklag. Bumping into them only slows you for a moment.
- At the end, three short quiz questions review the order of events, and you receive stars and a score.
Bible background
Achish said to David that he had found no evil in him, but the lords did not favor him, so he should return and go in peace (1 Samuel 29:6-7). When David asked, “But what have I done?”, Achish answered that David was as good in his sight as an angel of God, but the princes of the Philistines had said he must not go up with them to the battle (verses 8-9). Achish told him to rise early in the morning and leave as soon as it was light, and David and his men rose early to return to the land of the Philistines (verses 10-11). The next chapter tells how they reached Ziklag on the third day (30:1).
