Bible background
After Saul met the Lord on the road to Damascus, he preached in the synagogues there that Jesus is the Son of God. After many days the Jews plotted to kill him, but Saul learned of their plan. They watched the gates day and night to kill him, so the disciples took him by night and let him down through the wall in a large basket (Acts 9:23-25). Paul later told this story himself (2 Corinthians 11:32-33).
